77% of board members expect AI savings, but only 3% of organizations exceed their targets

According to Gartner research, most executives expect AI to bring productivity gains, but the share of organizations able to hit the target remains low.

What's happening

According to data from Gartner Newsroom, 77% of board members expect AI to deliver productivity gains and cost savings. Yet only 3% of organizations exceed their targets for cost savings from productivity gains. Another Gartner survey, conducted in the second quarter, found that only 21% of the time freed up by AI is redirected to more innovative work.

Whose desk it lands on

The executive responsible for human resources. Which metrics do they use to track how AI projects contribute to employee productivity and savings targets?

Our view

The CX Brief's interpretation, not a claim made by the source.

The wide gap between high expectations for AI investments and tangible savings points to a lack of strategy at organizations. Unless leaders agree on where the value lies, the time freed up by technology goes to routine operations rather than innovative work.
