Amazon Bars Meta's Shopping AI Agent Muse from Its Site

Amazon argues that third-party shopping applications should operate openly and respect a retailer's decision on whether to participate.

What's happening

According to Newsweek, in early September Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent that can send emails, complete forms and book travel. Amazon banned Muse agents from its site. In Forrester's survey of nearly 18,000 business buyers (employees who make purchases on behalf of their companies), 94% said they had used generative AI during their most recent purchase.

Whose desk it lands on

Head of sales. Buyers are checking what AI tells them by asking your team; is your team ready for that question?

Our view

The CX Brief's interpretation, not a claim made by the source.

When an agent makes the purchasing decision, it is unclear who is accountable, and buyer behavior shows it. According to Gartner, 69% of business buyers get information from AI but still turn to a sales rep to verify it. The machine supplies the information; a human still supplies the assurance.
