Türkiye's 94.49% ChatGPT Record and What It Means for CX
According to data released in January 2026, in Türkiye 94.49% of the traffic that AI chatbots refer to websites comes from ChatGPT, the highest share of any country in the world.

One of the most comprehensive reports in the tech world, “Digital 2026 Turkey,” was released recently. Paging through the report from We Are Social and Meltwater, we came across a figure that left me wondering whether we should feel proud on Türkiye’s behalf or think long and hard about it.
According to data released in January 2026, in Türkiye 94.49% of the traffic that AI chatbots refer to websites comes from ChatGPT, the highest share of any country in the world.
To grasp how big this number is, you have to look at the rest of the world. The global average is around 80%. In other words, while 20% of this traffic worldwide comes from alternatives such as Gemini, Claude or Perplexity, here in Türkiye we have, by something close to social consensus - for now, of course - declared “AI = ChatGPT.”

Why Is Türkiye Narrowing Its Focus While the World Diversifies?
When we dig a little deeper into the data (the Statcounter figures the report draws on), we see a clear behavioral difference between Türkiye and Western markets:
While AI tools that serve as “search engine alternatives,” such as Perplexity in particular, are stealing market share in America and Europe, Turkish users love the “Super App” approach. Search, writing, translation, venting… They want to handle it all on one screen, with one brand they know and trust.
What Does It Mean for CX Leaders?
Here are my takeaways:
- GPT’s lead may not last forever, but the bar is now set by GPT’s latest model: your customers carry the world’s most advanced language model in their pocket. When your brand’s chatbot says “I didn’t understand that,” the customer’s point of comparison is no longer old-school IVRs but ChatGPT’s fluency. The tolerance threshold has dropped sharply.
- Where Should You Invest? If “AI Integration” is in your 2026 budget, your course for the Turkish market is clear. Customers aren’t scattered across other platforms; they’re all in one place. Focusing on the ChatGPT ecosystem promises a far higher ROI (return on investment) than investing in niche platforms.
- Loyalty and Habit: Once Turkish consumers are won over by a technology, they treat it as the “standard” and stay loyal to it. This is proof that Türkiye is a great “stronghold” for brands that enter the market first and earn trust.
A Quick Note: Leadership Isn’t Forever
Of course, in the tech world even a week is a very long time. ChatGPT, sitting on the throne with 94% today, could lose its lead tomorrow to a revolutionary update from Google or Anthropic.
What we really need to focus on here is not the brand’s name but the Turkish consumer’s reflex to “migrate quickly to the best and stay there.” The leader may change, but this culture of “consolidation” looks set to stay.
