Aiming for the Top in Customer Experience Awards: 5 Strategies for a Winning Entry
Bringing customer experience projects to life takes great dedication and a big budget. But putting that project before the jury of a prestigious competition (on a global stage such as the International CX Awards) and emerging as the "winner" calls for storytelling skills very different from those needed to succeed in the field.

As we mentioned in our earlier newsletter articles, doing great work isn’t enough on its own; how you present it changes everything when it comes to customer experience awards.
How should you manage the application process so that the project you’ve poured months into is crowned with an award? Here are 5 strategic steps to boost your chances of winning with a successful project entry:
1. Don’t Fall in Love With Your Project
Working with passion and becoming attached to your project is a great source of motivation. But too much emotion can cost you your objectivity and keep you from presenting your project to the jury the right way. If you can’t clearly analyze your project’s weaknesses as well as its strengths, it becomes harder to prepare a grounded, persuasive entry. Don’t let your love for your project blind you; you should always be able to look at your story with a critical outsider’s eye.
2. Make Sure You Choose the Right Category
By their nature, CX competitions span a wide range of areas, and your project may fit more than one category (Digital Transformation, Employee Experience, etc.). Trying your luck in several categories may seem like a sensible award entry strategy, but focusing on a single area often makes a stronger impact. As you step onto the stage claiming “I’m the best,” remember that you can’t control your competitors, but you can position your own project perfectly.
At this stage, we recommend using the 5 Whys Technique, widely used in problem-solving and root cause analysis. Start the chain of questions with “Why should we enter this category?” If you still have solid answers after all 5 whys, you’re on the right track.
3. Beat Groupthink
For months, you’ve worked alongside the same team with intense dedication. You’ve built great chemistry; you agree with each other’s ideas more often and push back less. That may sound ideal, but on long projects it can be a sign of “groupthink.” To avoid getting trapped in a single perspective, apply the “Devil’s Advocate” technique in your decision-making meetings. In review meetings, rotate the role: give one person the job of looking at the project from a different angle and critiquing it. That way, you can uncover gaps you had missed until then and build a successful project entry.
4. Manage Your Time Like a “Project”
You’ve identified the award programs you’re targeting, you’re confident, and you have months ahead of you. But if you don’t add the application process to your project management tool as a work item in its own right, you’ll inevitably end up saying those dreaded words: “Oh no, the deadline is almost here!” You could squander the strongest project in the field simply because you didn’t have enough time left to present it well. Be sure to approach the application process with professional discipline. From the very start, be clear about who owns what, which tasks will be delegated and when they’re due.
5. Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help
Competition in the customer experience ecosystem is incredibly fierce. Even if you’ve delivered the best project, you may not get the result you expect unless your entry is built on the right data visualization and writing strategies. Whenever you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to turn to experts and consultants for support. You’ve spent serious money bringing this valuable project to life; with the right guidance, take it all the way to the top.
The Path to the Awards Stage Is Up to You
Customer experience projects are the heart of organizations, but making sure the jury hears that heartbeat clearly takes an entirely different strategy. By following the 5 steps above, you’ll turn the impact you’ve made in the field into more than a submission: a success story of international caliber. Find the courage to look at your project from the outside, choose the right category and manage your time well, and the moment your name is announced on the awards stage will be the best reward for all your hard work. Best of luck on your road to victory!
